About Manchester United Logo

The logo depicted is for Manchester United, an English football club. At the center of the logo is a shield that is predominantly colored in yellow with a red outline. Inside the shield, a red devil holding a pitchfork is prominently featured against the yellow background. Above the devil, there is a ship in full sail which is a representation of the Manchester Ship Canal and denotes the city's trading power.

Crowning the top section of the shield, “MANCHESTER” is inscribed in capital letters on a red scroll-like banner with a yellow outline. This banner follows the curved top contour of the shield. At the bottom of the shield, another red banner with a yellow outline curls upwards, matching the symmetry of the top one. Within this bottom banner, the word “UNITED” is written in capital letters in white.

Flanking both sides of the shield just beyond the central figure, there are images of a football (soccer ball), indicative of the sport. The footballs are designed in a traditional black and white pattern.

The entire design is outlined by a thin white line which provides a subtle border between the elements of the logo and the black background that frames the entire badge. The color scheme of yellow, red, and black is striking and closely associated with the club’s image and identity.

Manchester United Logo Information and History

The Manchester United logo is a trademark of the Manchester football club. It has been around for more than 50 years. Its first crest was based on the coat of arms of the Manchester Army Consulate. In 1948, the team played in the second FA Cup final. In 1957, the team wore the crest on their kits. Throughout the years, the club has added several other variations of the logo. Here is a history of the Manchester United logo.

The Manchester United logo began in 1878 when the club was founded by four Lancashire businessmen. Originally, the team was known as the Newton Heath LYR football club. The club's name was changed to Manchester United in 1902. The iconic change in ownership was a result of a debt situation. Four businessmen invested PS500 each in the club and changed the name to Manchester United. From that time on, the club's logo became more complex and defined the city of Manchester.

In 1970, the devil became the central feature of the Manchester United logo. It replaced the three stripes on the shield, but the lettering remained in white on red. The devil was added to represent the club's supporters and players. The ball replaced the roses. In addition, the logo now has gold letters instead of the traditional black. This changed after the 1992-1993 season, when the club dropped their black borders and replaced them with a lighter shade of yellow.

Basic Colors

Red

Advanced Colors

We've extracted the below 'advanced colors' from the logo. These should be much closer to the actual colors found in the logo. Our extractor tries to only take the main colors of the image and tries to ignore shading on anti-aliasing or shadows. This generally leads to better results, but in some circumstances you might find a few unusual colors being pulled from the logo.

Tomato
Bright yellow
Squash
Olive brown
Vomit

Hex Colors

The below are the hex colors that are found in the logo. You can assume that these are the actual colors used in the logo. Our color extraction tool that takes the colors from the logo tries to ignore anti-aliasing and shadows, so you may sometimes find a slightly odd result, but this is rare. These colors should be very similar to the Advanced Colors, but you'll notice subtle differences. If you're interested in the exact color then use the hex, but if you're trying to describe the logo then use the Advanced Color or the Basic Color above.
