About Escudo de España - Spain Shield

A traditional heraldic shield quartered into five main areas, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The upper-left quarter shows a gold castle on a red field; the upper-right a crowned rampant lion in a pink/purple tone on a silver field. The lower-left quarter displays vertical red and gold stripes; the lower-right a red field bearing a gold chain pattern. A small green-tipped pomegranate sits at the shield base. Centered over the junction of the quarters is a small blue oval (inescutcheon) with three gold fleurs-de-lis.

Flanking the shield are two classical columns on pedestals, each topped with a small crown and wrapped with a red ribbon bearing the Latin motto PLVS (left) and VLTRA (right). Blue-and-white wavy bands appear at the columns' bases. The overall illustration is detailed, full-color and highly symmetrical, using strong reds, golds and blues against silver/gray elements.
