The crest for River Plate has undergone many changes over the past century. In its earliest form, the club did not have a crest. In 1928, the club adopted an insignia in honor of its eponymous samba player, Hugo Santilli. A dibujo of a leon was used for two years between 1984 and 1986. Ultimately, the club's crest became what it is today.
While the new crest is less colorful than the previous one, it retains the band and initials. Unlike the previous version, this new logo has fewer details.
