The logo in question features a shield as the central element, mainly in a royal blue color. At the top of the shield, there's a small red flame. Inside the shield, there are multiple stars placed in the upper half against the blue background. The bottom half of the shield has a white strip running across it containing the Latin phrase "ARS ET SCIENTIA" in blue letters, which translates to "Art and Science."

Below this white strip, the shield contains a green section showcasing a red ribbon tied in the center into a bow, connecting what appears to be an olive branch on the left and a wheat branch on the right, both in green color. These elements together symbolize peace and food, respectively, quite possibly representing the values or focus areas of the institution.

Enclosing the shield, two laurel branches circle around from the bottom, reaching up towards the top on both sides, signifying achievement or honor.

Beneath the emblem, a red banner shows the full name of the institution in white capital letters: "UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA CATARINA."

Below the shield and the university name, the acronym "UFSC" is displayed in large, bold, dark blue capital letters on a white background.

The logo has an official and academic appearance, indicative of an educational institution, with the use of traditional academic symbols such as stars, flames, laurel branches, and a shield.
