Starbucks Logo Information and History

If you've ever wondered how the Starbucks logo was created, you're not the only one. Thousands of other companies are attempting to design their own logo, but so far, no one has managed to create a similar design. If you've ever visited one of these coffee shops, you'll know that the Starbucks logo is very similar to an entry in the dictionary of symbols. Published in 1962, this entry features a bare-chested mermaid and a crowned mermaid. Over the years, the logo has gone through various stages of abstraction and simplification, and now looks like the mermaid.

The Starbucks logo has undergone several changes throughout its history. First, it was brown and orange, and then, in 1987, it changed to a green and white design. Later, the logo was redesigned again, but with the addition of a siren in the center and twin tails on either side. The mermaid became a streamlined mermaid, and Starbucks relaunched the logo with its new look.

The first iteration of the Starbucks logo took place in 1971, with the founders looking through old marine books for inspiration. They found a woodcut of a two-tailed siren. While the original design was not officially defined, the siren's image has been used as the logo ever since. This logo is often associated with a person's appetite and thirst, and Starbucks is no different. While the logo has changed over the years, its essence remains the same: the siren represents the company's values and the products.

Basic Colors

We've taken a look at the image and pulled out some colors that are common across lots of logos. The colors below aren't the exact colors found in the image, but approximations to common colors.

Teal

Advanced Colors

We've extracted the below 'advanced colors' from the logo. These should be much closer to the actual colors found in the logo. Our extractor tries to only take the main colors of the image and tries to ignore shading on anti-aliasing or shadows. This generally leads to better results, but in some circumstances you might find a few unusual colors being pulled from the logo.

Jungle green

Hex Colors

The below are the hex colors that are found in the logo. You can assume that these are the actual colors used in the logo. Our color extraction tool that takes the colors from the logo tries to ignore anti-aliasing and shadows, so you may sometimes find a slightly odd result, but this is rare. These colors should be very similar to the Advanced Colors, but you'll notice subtle differences. If you're interested in the exact color then use the hex, but if you're trying to describe the logo then use the Advanced Color or the Basic Color above.
